If you’re an avid Harry Potter fan who would rather read the book itself and not have any (or all) of the juicy bits spoiled for you then you might want to avoid reading any or all the spoilers that have been appearing on the net within the past couple of days, because apparently, some of these are real.
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Scholastic Corp., which distributes the Harry Potter book series in the United States, said on Wednesday it will take legal action against two companies for distributing and selling copies of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” before it goes on sale on July 21.
ADVERTISEMENTScholastic said distributor Levy Home Entertainment and online store DeepDiscount.com made the copies available before the official release date.
That violated an agreement to hold the book, Scholastic said.
“We are also making a direct appeal to the Harry Potter fans who bought their books from DeepDiscount.com and may receive copies early requesting that they keep the packages hidden until midnight on July 21st,” Scholastic said. (source)
Some purchasers have already begun distributing key facts, spoilers, whole chapters, and in some cases have even gone through the painstaking effort of taking photos of the entire book, two pages at a time, and publishing them online (source). Unfortunately for these zealous fans, Scholastic and Rowling are seeking their identities in order to take legal action and have demanded the removal of all spoilage content in the best interests of fans.
If you absolutely can’t wait I’d say get out there and start looking, the story is already online!
HP fans will also be interested to note that J.K. Rowling will conduct an exclusive television interview with NBC’s Meredith Vieira to discuss the conclusion of this series. Keep an eye out for it on the Today show on July 26th and 27th and on Dateline NBC on July 29th.
