PaperBackSwap is a great site to be a part of, especially if you love reading or are a complete and utter bookworm. PBS will save you a lot of money while still allowing you to find, read, and should you choose, keep the books that interest you. However, this coming October some changes will be implemented. In an email that I received on the 20th of September PBS stated that they would be making the following changes:

Dear Members,

Sorry for the email, but we had two announcements to make.

(1) Initial Credits

Autumn is a time for change, and PaperBackSwap is no exception! Yes, the site is constantly evolving, but one thing has always been true until now: each new member was given 3 “startup” credits when he or she joined and posted the first 9 books. But on October 5th, 2007, this policy will change.

Members who join after October 5th will get 2 startup credits for the first 10 books they post. We believe that this small change will increase the viability of PaperBackSwap.

What does this mean for you? Well it means that if you haven’t signed up yet now is the time! Hurry and signup while the initial credits is still 3 folks! ;)

So what is PBS and how does it work anyway, you ask? To explain, is an online bookswap that allows members to post books that they would like to get rid of into the system where other members can select them and have them sent to them for free. Members sign up, post some books to the system, and then using the credits they receive they can request books already in the system. For each book of theirs they swap out they get a credit which they in turn can use to select another book. If you run out of credits you can always purchase more too. :) Shipping is only paid when you mail out a book and is pretty cheap too.
